Well-drained and infertile soil warrants the use of tough plants. Sedums, Iceplant, Dianthus, and Skullcap are among the groundcovers that love this environment.

The Rock Garden in spring. Dianthus 'Bath's Pink' is the best Pink for the South.
Iceplant (Delosperma) is bright in the summer rock garden. Skullcap, Scutellaria suffrutescens 'Texas Rose' blooms for weeks.
The flowers of Eucomis 'Sparkling Burgundy' resemble a miniature purple pineapple. Who cares that this beautiful Oregano 'Kent's Beauty' is not edible.
Campanula 'Wedding Bells' is a beautiful addition to this garden, blooming in June. Chrysanthemum 'Ryan's Pink' looks like a pink daisy and is beautiful in the fall garden.
