After a summer without rain, the pond was quite low. I took advantage of the situation and installed a stone wall along the walk beside the pond. Previously, only weeds grew there. We backfilled with good soil, enriched with compost. The plants love it.

A wonderful groundcover is Veronica 'Georgia Blue' which blooms in March. Louisiana Iris 'Black Gamecock' is so deep a purple that it is truly almost black.
Iris versicolor (Blue Flag Iris) grows in standing water as well as in normal garden soil. Another purple bloom that is almost black...Zantedeschia 'Schwarzwalder' (Calla Lily), purchased from Brent and Becky's Bulbs.
Annuals all...blue Scaevola, Wave petunias and a chartreuse-colored Alternanthera thrived in the heat and drought of the Summer 2007. Clematis 'Roguchi' has a small bell-shaped flower that is a beautiful deep blue. It blooms for weeks and weeks in summer.
