The north side of the Hangar Bed receives morning sun and late afternoon sun, with bright light in between. The setting is perfect for a Southern garden in summer; this garden is loaded with plants bearing hot colors that peak in July and August.

Hippeastrum 'Voodoo' is a prolific perennial bloomer. Centranthus ruber (Red Valerian) and Dianthus barbatus (Sweet William) are old-fashioned plants that never go out of style.
Peony 'Shirley Temple' blooms in spring with white daisies in the background. Datura metal is a 2-3 foot tall annual with huge fragrant white blossoms; it politely self-seeds into the garden.
Malibar Spinach is an annual vine with edible leaves. The purple stems, pink flowers and black fruit are evident at the same time, making this a most beautiful plant. A riot of color at the hangar.
A small grasshopper finds a delightful perch in this dayliily. A plant that elicits much comment, Caesalpinia gilliesii (Bird of Paradise Shrub) has large bright yellow flowers with bright orange stamens.
The petals of Rudbeckia subtomentosa 'Henry Eilers' look like quills.
