My husband was in disbelief that I would dig a big hole in the lowest part of our property. This bed is perfect for Crinum lilies, Salvia ‘Black and Blue,’ several types of irises that love moisture, and more….

'Marvel Gold' is the name of this yellow variety of our native Iris fulva. Meadow Rue, Thalictrum, adds an airy elegance to this bed, especially when planted beside the bold foliage of Crinums.
Crinum lilies are long-lived...they are found thriving at old abandoned homesteads. A friend gave me this white crinum fifteen years ago. The bulb was the size of a grapefruit.
At only 6" tall when in bloom, Stachys minima, or Dwarf Betony, makes a great edging plant. Midsummer through fall, the 3-foot clumps of Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue' are topped with spikes of deep blue flowers.
Zephyranthes candida is a rain lily that blooms in late summer after we've had a drenching thunderstorm.
